Today we hosted our second lunchtime “Ask Me Anything” all around Breakout Beauty UK 2026. Thank you to all the founders that attended and came with all the great questions. It was great to see so many of you already thinking seriously about applying.
Paul Finch and Meg Gordon (Striā Lab, BBUK 2025 cohort) covered everything from what counts as a “full-time founder” to whether you can apply if you don’t launch until February 2027 (spoiler: yes, you can). Plus the unwritten rules of the application form, told by the founder who broke half of them and still got on.
Here’s what was covered:
- Why Paul says he gets more from a 20-second application video than the entire form. And what he’s actually watching for.
- Why Meg almost didn’t apply, the mandatory criteria she didn’t meet, and the moment she knew it was time to lean in anyway.
- The trading-history sweet spot for cohort fit, and the founder who applied with no product, no revenue, and still made it to the final 20.
- The £1m question: which two prizes are on the table at the finale, and which retailers could rule you out of one of them.
And Meg’s reframe of how to think about the application?
“You’re not pitching for money, you’re pitching for support.”
